Located at the entrance of Galway bay, about twenty kilometres west of the Irish coast Inishmaan is accessible by sea from Rossaveel and by air from Connemara Airdrome in Inverin.

Supported by Ecole Normale Supérieur (ENS) de Paris Saclay and University College Dublin (UCD) A.I.R.S. is hosting ambitious interdisciplinary research project combining ocean engineering, statistics, mathematical modelling and fluid mechanics, environment and erosion.
